Black and White vs. Colored Portraits

When getting portraits done, most photographers give you the option of choosing between a black and white or a colored finished product. With Glamour Shots' various packages, touch-up, and personalization options, you may feel overwhelmed when it comes down to choosing the right decision. It's not uncommon to struggle in deciding between black and white or colored portraits.

Black and white photography should be used to make a portrait look more formal or "old fashioned." This classic option should only be used when the composition of a photo allows, and there are stark contrasts between dark and light. If used in a portrait where dark and light isn't a large element, black and white can make a portrait look slightly washed out and unappealing. Black and white is also a great option for more romantic and simplistic pieces, including wedding and engagement portraits, as well as baby bump photos.

Colored portraits are a great option when the portrait relies on the colors to bring all of the elements together. For example, family portraits often rely on colors in everyone's clothes to unify a photograph. Glamour Shots also offers colorized portraits which highlight a certain item or color in a portrait while the rest remains black and white.

If you are still unsure of which to choose, be sure to check out Glamour Shots ratings and reviews to see what others chose. Ask the photographer for his or her professional opinion- they are experienced professionals who understand how color works in photographs.
